Our monthly tasting events (unless otherwise stated) cost $20 plus a $1 Pay Pal service charge, when paid in advance. We encourage you to book in advance to assist the restaurant plan for food, so we charge a small premium ($25 cash or check) at the door, assuming there is capacity.
Being on the mailing list does not obligate you to attend any events. We highly encourage you to update your email on our mailing list so that you receive advance notice of all the events, photos from previous tastings and outings and more.
This will vary based on individual events. Typically, guests are offered a 2-ounce tasting pour of four different wines, often two whites and two reds. After sampling the featured wines, guests can select a full glass of their favorite.
If you have prepaid by Pay Pal, you are entitled to a complete refund if you notify us via email by NOON on the day of the event. Email your refund request to info@odvkc.com.
We use a thrid party service called Constant Contact to manage our subscriber database and newletter delivery. Some email servers screen incoming mail from Constant Contact and send it to your SPAM folder. You will need to consult your administrator or Help section on how to set up the address "info@odvkc.com" on your WHITELIST. You might also want to sign up again using another email address, such as Yahoo, MSN, Gmail, Hotmail etc.
You can simply click on the "Update profile" link at the bottom of the newsletter to update your contact info yourself. You will need to enter your old address first so that your profile comes up.
We do not have a code, but most of our members dress in after-work business clothes or nice casual wear.
Most of our events are scheduled on Wednesdays or Thursdays, depending on the availablity of the venue and trying to avoid conflict with other events in town. There is no particular pattern - just ensure that you open the email newsletter when it arrives and make a note in your calendar of upcoming dates.
No, we are classified as a social club. However, we have a large mailing list and are proud to lend our support to a number of charity wine events in the Kansas City area by assisting with promotion and volunteer recruitment. Please email us at info@odvkc.com if you have an event that we ought to consider.
Unless otherwise noted, OdV wine tastings are from 6pm -8pm. Host restaurants usually offer an incentive discount to encourage members to stay for dinner afterwards.
Our events provide the restaurant or club an opportunity to showcase their appetizer menus and present hors d'oeuvres that complement the wine. Our host restaurant will usually offer a special OdV discount to encourage members to stay for dinner.
We average from 100 to 150 attendees, depending on the venue. While many members are "young, single professionals", our events do attract a wide range of ages and couples. Each month, we tend to get a great mix - about 1/3 'hardcore regulars', 1/3 members who come ocassionaly and 1/3 new faces.
We are fortunate to partner with a number of independent wine distributors. Their "on premise" representatives make suggestions regarding new restaurants or special locations that would have special appeal. We then select wines that suit the theme or complement the food type.
You may purchase tickets online using the Pay Pal service. (We usually close this option off at noon on the day of the event – see separate ‘pay at the door’ FAQ). The Pay Pal system permits you to use a debit or credit card, eCheck or make payments from your personal Pay Pal account.
The Pay Pal link in the OdV Newsletter permits multiple tickets in a single transaction. Unfortunately, the OdV link on the website is limited to one ticket purchase at a time, requiring a separate transaction for your guests.
Many of our events do sell out. In these cases, we will close the website Pay Pal link early. Paying in advance by Pay Pal will secure you a space. Where there is available capacity, you may pay by check or cash at the door. However, we encourage you to book in advance to assist the restaurant in planning, so the cost at the door is a little higher, $25 (cash or check).
If you are having technical difficulties or do not feel comfortable paying over the web, you may send a $20 check, payable to ODV at: ODV PO Box 413964 KC, MO 64141 Checks must arrive at least two days prior to event and you need to RSVP to info@odvkc.com to secure your space and remind us to run by the P.O. Box.
Running an organization like ours takes a variety of skills and manpower. If you feel that you could contribute, please send us an email to info@odvkc.com and we will send you a Volunteer Application.
We prefer to do everything online (the wine may be vintage but we are not). Your Pay Pal receipt is your ticket. No "tickets" are mailed. The name of the payor will also be on the downloaded Pay Pal prepaid list at the door. If you are making multiple transactions under your name, you can make a note of your guest's name in the 'Comments" section of the Pay Pal form.
